HEBE DRAGONS OPTIMIST FLEETS
Admittance to the Racing Program is by application and requires permission from the Head Racing Coach and STC Manager, based on skills, experience, and interest. If you’re a sailor aged 7-18 who can sail in close quarters with other boats and seeks a challenge, we invite you to become part of the Hebe Dragons!
The Green Fleet Squad serves as the primary pathway to the Hebe Dragons Team, where many of our regular youth sailors develop and hone their competitive sailing skills before progressing to the elite team.
Join us at the Hebe Haven Yacht Club Sailing Centre and experience the excitement of racing, the camaraderie of fellow sailors, and the chance to be part of a winning tradition!
BLUE FLEET
The Blue Fleet Squad is a great way for students to master the basic Optimist skills and become competent helms & skippers of their own boat.
Once a Blue Fleet sailor has shown a good level of competency and is able to sail around a triangular course in moderate to light winds, he/she can be considered to join the Green Fleet at the discretion of the Race Coaches & Management.
Quarterly youth fleet trials are scheduled for the Optimist sailors to get a club ranking & see how they are progressing with the rest of the squad sailors.
GREEN FLEET
The Green Fleet is our clubs introduction to racing program that take our youth sailors who re interested in competitive sailing & show potential to get their racing skills fine-tuned in preparation for future regattas at our club & in Hong Kong.
The Green Fleet has developed really well with the HKODA in recent months and we support the club Youth sailors who will take their first competitive steps in the sport.
Building on the Green Fleet concept that has been a feature of Hong Kong Race Week over the years, the HKODA is pleased to announce the extension of this success story to all its ranking regattas. Through the support of sponsors and the Race Week Green Team, HKODA will bring the necessary resources to each ranking regatta to enable a Green Fleet experience to be run alongside the main fleet.
Following the successful formula develped at Race Week, the Green Fleet experience will comprise a lecture, a practice race, racing and a debrief, repeated over two days.
The aim is to introduce new sailors to racing, build their confidence and integrate them into the regatta scene.
It is hoped that coaches and clubs will use the extended Green Fleet program to bridge the gap between their learn-to-sail schemes and the racing squads, giving sailors a target to aim for. Parents are welcome to get involved, no sailing experience necessary !
MAIN FLEET
The Main fleet sailors are Hebe Dragon’s main racing fleet who compete against Hong Kong’s best sailors. Main fleet sailors have enjoyed great success over the past few years, including winning the Hong Kong Optimist yearly ranking and placing competitively in the Asian and World Championships.
